I tried the same thing, I could never get it to work. The phone doesn't have any kind of sound transfer, only things like files. You can get a number from Skype that acts like a calling card though.

Greetings Evil.

It sounds like you have 2 possible sources of problems - did you change the router when you changed providers? If so swap it out as you could have intermittent router problems.

If not then this definitely sounds like a service signal, bandwidth, or line issue, and despite their 'service charges' I don't think it is legal for them to charge you if THEY are at fault. So contact them and threaten to terminate the service for breach of contract / 'Section 14.2 of the Sale of goods act' deems that you get something of 'merchantable quality' - i.e. it works.

Telecomms providers usually have escalation processes for thorny issues, so try to get this escalated to the highest level - BT has a Chairmans 'high level complaints team' (yup, been there and done that!).

Ask Talktalk to monitor your service and then either get them to fix the problem or change providers - get as much evidence as possible if you are going to call in the contract due to non performance. Also speak to neighbours to see which provider they use and confirm if they get similar problems - compare settings too if you can.

Time to close down this issue Evil one - put the onus squarely back on the provider and tell 'em to get it fixed, or you will Violate them! The CAB may offer some useful advice on how, where and when to violate them best... ; )
